Radu Ratoi, accordion
Radu Ratoi is the winner of the 2024 Susan Wadsworth International Auditions. An extraordinary talent, he has been praised for his originality and virtuosity in the instruments, in both classical and contemporary repertoire. Ratoi continues to push the limits of the instrument through inventive transcriptions of Bach, Scarlatti, Rameau, Liszt, and many more, extending the repertoire possibilities for the accordion.

Ratoi is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he was awarded the Sonning Music Prize, one of Denmark’s most prestigious honors. He has won many accordion competitions throughout the world, including the Coupe Mondiale and the Klinghenthal Accordion Competition—more than 60 national and international awards in total.

Ratoi has captivated audiences worldwide with his musicality, technical brilliance, and charisma. He has performed in some of the world’s most renowned concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Kennedy Center, Tivoli Hall Copenhagen, and Merkin Hall, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, and Harbin Concert Hall. He was awarded the esteemed Moldovan National Distinction “Master in Arts” and is currently the soloist with the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova.

He plays a Pigini Nova ‘RR’—specially built and modified for him.
