Trio Azura
Trio Azura has quickly emerged as one of today’s most promising young ensembles, praised by Gramophone for its “intelligence and imagination” and “profound emotion.” Formed in 2022 at the Colburn School, where they are ensemble in residence, the trio studies with Jonathan Brown, Martin Beaver, Clive Greensmith, and Fabio Bidini. The members of Trio Azura were named winners of the 2025 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and appointed YCA Jacobs Fellows, becoming YCA’s first ensemble in residence.
The trio comprises Canadian violinist Duncan McDougall, South Korean cellist Yejin Hong, and Chinese pianist Yanfeng (Tony) Bai. Drawing on their diverse backgrounds, the members bring distinct perspectives to their performances. In 2024 they won the grand prize, gold medal, Lift Every Voice Prize, and Horszowski Trio Prize at the 51st Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and they were prizewinners at the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Harbin, China.
Recent career highlights include their Fischoff Double Gold Tour across the U.S. Midwest, mentoring more than 500 students; a residency at the American University of Sharjah; and performances at La Jolla Music Society, Boston Court Pasadena, Mimir Chamber Music Festival, and Italy’s Emilia Romagna Festival. Upcoming appearances include Brisbane Festival, Nevada Chamber Music Festival, and Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
